Honesty Always Brings Great Rewards

Ramswaroop was a poor woodcutter who earned his livelihood by cutting wood in the forest and selling it in the market every evening. The money he made was just enough to support his family. One day, Ramswaroop ventured deep into the forest and spotted a large tree by the riverbank. Unfortunately, his axe slipped from his hands and fell into the river below.

Panicked, Ramswaroop quickly climbed down and searched the river for his axe. Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t find it. Feeling helpless and heartbroken, he sat under the tree, wondering how he would manage without his axe. At that moment, a divine angel appeared before him and asked, Why are you so sad? Ramswaroop explained how his axe had fallen into the river and how important it was for his work. The angel smiled kindly and said, Don’t worry. I’ll help you retrieve your axe.

The angel dived into the river and came back holding a golden axe. Is this your axe? the angel asked. Ramswaroop looked at it and replied honestly, No, sir, this is not my axe. The angel dived into the river again and returned with a silver axe. Again, Ramswaroop shook his head and said, No, this is not my axe either. Finally, the angel took one last dive and brought back an iron axe. As soon as Ramswaroop saw it, he exclaimed with joy, Yes, sir, this is my axe!

The angel was deeply impressed by Ramswaroop’s honesty. As a reward, the angel gave him not only his iron axe but also the golden and silver axes. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ramswaroop thanked the angel for his kindness and returned home with all three axes.

Moral:  Honesty is a valuable quality that always leads to rewarding outcomes.
