Delhi’s new BJP government rolls out plans for water, air quality; seeks report on Mohalla Clinics

The government also demanded reports on pending healthcare projects by February 27, promising visible changes within 100 days.

Delhi BJP's New Initiatives

A day after taking charge, the newly-formed BJP-led Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hit the ground running. The administration announced a summer action plan aimed at improving water supply and air quality and ordered a thorough review of the flagship mohalla clinics initiative.

The Chief Minister, along with her council of ministers, held meetings with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Delhi Jal Board to assess the city’s road conditions and water supply issues. Gupta highlighted that the state of Delhi’s roads was concerning, with many plagued by potholes. She assured citizens that benefits under the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, approved during the government’s first cabinet meeting, would soon reach residents, particularly senior citizens.

In the lead-up to the recent elections, the BJP had blamed the previous AAP government for issues like poor road conditions, water shortages, supply of contaminated water, sewer overflows and clogged drains. The new government has now prioritised strengthening these basic amenities and enhancing service delivery for the people of Delhi.

Gupta and her ministers also met with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Singh also directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on the status of mohalla clinics by next Thursday.

Singh criticised the previous government, claiming that many clinics lacked doctors, medicines, and essential facilities. “People were being fooled for the last 10 years in the name of mohalla clinics,” he said, adding that those built on government land would be converted into Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs.

The government also demanded reports on pending healthcare projects by February 27, promising visible changes within 100 days. Singh emphasised that clean water supply and sewage management would remain top priorities, with immediate actions planned to address water shortages during the summer.

“Discussions are already underway to ensure clean drinking water and better air quality,” Singh stated, assuring Delhi residents that significant improvements will be evident by the next winter season.

The BJP government is also gearing up to implement its poll promise of cooking gas cylinders priced at Rs 500 each and free cylinders on Holi and Diwali to women from poor families.

“The blueprint of the scheme is almost ready and it will be discussed further before implementation,” said a government source.
Another cabinet minister Ashish Sood said the BJP government will fulfil all its poll promises but will need some time to bring everything “back on track”. ‘Remain inside rooms, no group viewing’: NIT Srinagar issues advisory for students ahead of India-Pakistan match He said the BJP-led Delhi government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government and ensure full-scale implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The new chief minister of Delhi said the Congress ruled Delhi for 15 years and AAP for 10 years but both never addressed the issues of the people of Delhi.
“Still, just one day after we took office, they have started questioning our government,” Gupta told reporters.
New PWD minister Parvesh Verma will inspect ongoing works and road strengthening and repair in different parts of the city.

The new ministers said they would take formal charge of their departments although they started working and holding meetings with the officers. The chief minister took charge of her office on Thursday.
